The Legislative Council (“LegCo”) Panel on Home Affairs today (2 August) visited the Hong Kong Palace Museum (“HKPM”) at the West Kowloon Cultural District (“WKCD”) to understand the latest situation of HKPM since its opening.

After arriving at HKPM, Members received briefings by the Board Chairman of the West Kowloon Cultural District Authority (“WKCDA”), Mr Henry TANG Ying-yen, and the Board Chairman of HKPM, Mr Bernard Charnwut CHAN, on the operation of HKPM since its opening on 3 July, including the ticketing arrangements and the registration of free tickets.

Members then toured 5 of the galleries of HKPM to see for themselves the museum facilities.  The HKPM exhibits about 900 priceless treasures from the Palace Museum in Beijing, some of which are being exhibited in Hong Kong for the first time. During the visit, Members took the opportunity to exchange views with the representatives of WKCDA and the Under Secretary for Culture, Sports and Tourism, Mr Raistlin LAU Chun, on the future development of WKCD and HKPM.

A total of 35 LegCo Members attended the visit.  Apart from Panel members, non-Panel members, including the President of LegCo, Hon Andrew LEUNG Kwan-yuen, also attended the visit.
