At the invitation of Hon Chief Justice Geoffrey MA, the Chief Justice of the Court of Final Appeal, the Legislative Council ("LegCo") Panel on Administration of Justice and Legal Services today (18 January) visited the Court of Final Appeal Building and met with members of the Judiciary.

During the visit, LegCo Members exchanged views with Hon Chief Justice Geoffrey MA and the Chief Judge of the High Court, Hon Justice Andrew CHEUNG, on issues of wide public concern, including mechanism for handling complaints against judicial conduct; manpower and other support, including accommodation, for the Judiciary; reviews of the retirement ages and the terms and conditions of service of judges and judicial officers; and judicial independence.

In addition, led by Hon Chief Justice Geoffrey MA, LegCo Members toured the Court of Final Appeal Building to learn about the facilities of the Building.  The Court of Final Appeal commenced operations in the premises at 8 Jackson Road, Central, last September.

Members participated in this visit were Panel members Hon Martin LIAO Cheung-kong (Chairman), Hon Dennis KWOK (Deputy Chairman), Hon Emily LAU Wai-hing, Hon TAM Yiu-chung, Hon Alan LEONG Kah-kit, Hon MA Fung-kwok, Hon TANG Ka-piu and Dr Hon CHIANG Lai-wan.
