LegCo Subcommittee to Follow Up Issues Relating to the Three-runway System at the Hong Kong International Airport observes three-runway system reclamation works (with photos)
The Legislative Council ("LegCo") Subcommittee to Follow Up Issues Relating to the Three-runway System ("3RS") at the Hong Kong International Airport conducted a visit to observe 3RS reclamation works today (5 May) to better understand its construction progress.
Members arrived at the Tung Chung Development Pier this morning and took a boat trip to observe 3RS reclamation works area with the company of Mr YAU Shing-mu, Under Secretary for Transport and Housing, and Mr Fred LAM, the Chief Executive Officer of the Airport Authority Hong Kong ("AAHK"). Members received a briefing on 3RS reclamation works by the representatives of AAHK during the boat trip.
Members then boarded the barge and observed how deep cement mixing method was used for non-dredge reclamation from a close distance. Members expressed concerns about the extent of reclamation, filling materials used as well as the environmental and ecological impact of the works.
Members participating in the visit included the Chairman of the Subcommittee, Hon WONG Ting-kwong; the Deputy Chairman, Hon Jeremy TAM Man-ho; Subcommittee members, Hon LEUNG Yiu-chung, Hon Paul TSE Wai-chun, Hon YIU Si-wing, Ir Dr Hon LO Wai-kwok, Hon CHU Hoi-dick and Dr Hon YIU Chung-yim.
