LegCo Subcommittee on Children's Rights visits Pik Uk Correctional Institution (with photos)
The Legislative Council ("LegCo") Subcommittee on Children's Rights visited Pik Uk Correctional Institution ("PUCI") under the Hong Kong Correctional Services Department ("CSD") today (16 June) to better understand its operation.
Accompanied by Mr TANG Ping-ming, Assistant Commissioner (Rehabilitation), CSD, Members first received a briefing on the operation of PUCI. They then toured around and chatted with young inmates to get to know their daily life and needs. They also visited the kitchen to understand the meal arrangements for the young inmates of PUCI.
PUCI is a maximum-security institution for young male remands and convicted young persons.
Members participating in the visit included the Chairman of the Subcommittee on Children's Rights, Dr Hon Fernando CHEUNG Chiu-hung; the Deputy Chairman, Hon SHIU Ka-chun; and Subcommittee members, Dr Hon Elizabeth QUAT, Hon CHU Hoi-dick, Hon Nathan LAW Kwun-chung and Dr Hon LAU Siu-lai.
