LegCo Panel on Security observes demonstration of water cannon vehicles (with photos)
The Legislative Council ("LegCo") Panel on Security conducted a visit to the Police Tactical Unit Headquarters in Fanling today (12 August) to observe a demonstration session of the Specialized Crowd Management Vehicles ("SCMVs"), commonly known as "water cannon vehicles".
Members were first briefed by the Police on the features and equipment of water cannon vehicles. Members noted that each vehicle is equipped with a water tank and a pelargonic acid vanillylamide solution storage device, as well as two water discharge devices on its top. Members then observed the demonstration of different modes of the vehicle, before raising questions on its application and operating guidelines.
Members who participated in the visit were the Chairman of the Panel, Hon CHAN Hak-kan; Panel Members Hon Jeffrey LAM Kin-fung, Hon Claudia MO, Hon YIU si-wing, Hon MA Fung-kwok, Hon CHAN Chi-chuen, Hon KWOK Wai-keung, Hon Dennis KWOK Wing-hang, Dr Hon Fernando CHEUNG Chiu-hung, Dr Hon Elizabeth QUAT, Hon POON Siu-ping, Dr Hon Junius HO Kwan-yiu, Hon HO Kai-ming, Hon LAM Cheuk-ting, Hon HUI Chi-fung, Hon AU Nok-hin and Hon Tony TSE Wai-chuen; as well as non-Panel Members Hon LEUNG Yiu-chung and Dr Hon KWOK Ka-ki.
