Introduction

The Legislative Council (“LegCo”) seeks to engage with the public and enhance public understanding of its work. A range of education, visitor, and multimedia services are available to bring up-to-date information of the Council to the public. The Council has also connected with the public via its website, mobile application (“mobile app”) and other social media channels.

Education and visitor services

A wide range of education and visitor services provided for the public in the LegCo Complex are designed to give participants the opportunity to meet and engage with Members. Members conduct guided tours of the Complex and participate in education activities held for schools following the tours, such as interactive learning activities on the work of the Council and story-telling about rules and collaborative activities.
Under the Meeting with Members programme which resumed in this session, students can directly talk with Members and raise questions on different topics and current issues for discussion. Music performances, an integral part of the programme, given by schools and youth music groups, were also relaunched in this session. In addition to on-site activities, the Secretariat continued to provide online education activities for schools, allowing students to enhance their knowledge of the Legislature through interactive games and role-playing the conduct of business at a Council meeting.
During the session, the Secretariat rolled out a new Teacher Programme to enhance teachers’ as well as their students’ understanding of the role and functions of the Council, and introduce various educational resources provided by the Secretariat to support teaching. Through a series of interactive dialogue sessions, Members and teachers exchanged views on topics related to the youth and educators.

  • Members walk students through the facilities of the Complex and explain the duties of LegCo during guided tours and education activities

    Multimedia services

    Various types of information of LegCo are provided through the use of the LegCo website and mobile app to keep the public abreast of the latest development of LegCo business. A brand-new design mobile app was launched in March 2023 with enhanced features and a modernized look, thereby offering users a more convenient and easier access to the latest information on LegCo business. Furthermore, the LegCo website has continued to implement various improved functionalities and provide more information in machine-readable formats.
    To enhance the dissemination of information, the video records of open meetings and activities of LegCo and its committees are posted on the YouTube channel, and the relevant photos are uploaded to the Flickr album for viewing and sharing. Meanwhile, the mobile app with functions such as “Press Release”, “Latest Publications” and “Push Notification” provides the public using mobile devices a quick access to the most up-to-date information about LegCo.
