POLICY ADDRESS AND CHIEF EXECUTIVE’S QUESTION AND ANSWER SESSIONS
Policy Address is the annual address delivered by the Chief Executive to the Legislative Council to outline various Government policy proposals for administering the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region. In 2024, the Chief Executive Mr John LEE delivered his Policy Address in October to outline the policy direction for the sixth-term Government.
In not less than 14 days after the Chief Executive has delivered his or her Policy Address, the Chairman of the House Committee will move a motion at a Council meeting to thank the Chief Executive for delivering his or her Policy Address. During the debate on the Motion of Thanks, Members will comment on the Policy Address and public officers will respond to these comments. This meeting usually lasts for three days.
The Chief Executive normally attends a Question and Answer Session on the Policy Address after the delivery of the Policy Address to expound on policy vision and to answer questions from Members. In addition, the Chief Executive also attends Chief Executive’s Interactive Exchange Question and Answer Sessions to express and exchange views on significant, macro and strategic topics with Members. Apart from answering questions, the Chief Executive may also consult Members’ views for consideration in the administration. A Question and Answer Session lasts for about one and a half hours.
