Moving Ahead
Rapid development of technology and growing industry convergence
are generating new commercial opportunities for industry players
as well as greater programming choice for consumers. We look
forward to the setting-up of a unified regulator for the entire
electronic communications sector and the subsequent review
of the regulatory regime as proposed by the Government.
I am delighted to report that the International Institute
of Communications headquartered in London has resolved to
hold its 39th Annual Conference and the International Regulators
Forum in Hong Kong in November 2008. The two events will be
co-hosted by the Authority and Office of the Telecommunications
Authority (OFTA). These conferences will provide an invaluable
opportunity for regulators and industry players across the
globe to exchange views and canvass pressing issues affecting
communications worldwide.
Finally, I wish to thank all Members of the Authority, the
Complaints Committee, the Codes of Practice Committee and
the TRCS for their dedication and diligence beyond the call
of duty, as well as the staff of the Television and Entertainment
Licensing Authority under the leadership of the Commissioner
for Television and Entertainment Licensing for their professional
advice and unwavering commitment.
