Minutes of Meeting held on Tuesday, 22 July 1997 at 10:30 am in the Chamber of the Legislative Council Building

I.Election of Chairman and Deputy Chairman

(Appendix II to PLC Paper No. CB(2)53)

Mr IP Kwok-him was elected as presiding member for the election meeting.

2.Mr IP reminded the meeting that members who were chairman/deputy chairman of the government advisory bodies relevant to the Administration of Justice and Legal Services Panel, as given in Appendix I of PLC Paper No. CB(2)53, would not be eligible to stand for election.

3.Mr CHEUNG Hon-chung nominated Mr Ambrose LAU Hon-chuen as Chairman of the Panel. Mrs Miriam LAU seconded the nomination. There being no other nominations, Mr IP declared Mr Ambrose LAU Hon-chuen Chairman of the Panel. Mr Ambrose LAU Hon-chuen took over chairmanship of the meeting.

4.Mr IP Kwok-him nominated Mr Kennedy WONG Ying-ho as Deputy Chairman of the Panel. Mrs Elsie TU seconded the nomination. There being no other nominations, the Chairman declared Mr Kennedy WONG Ying-ho Deputy Chairman of the Panel.

II.Schedule of meetings for the session

5.Members agreed that future meetings of the Panel would be held on the second Monday of each month at 4:30 pm. Members noted that meetings in January 1998 and beyond would be decided nearer the time.

III.Item for discussion at the next meeting

6.Members agreed that the next two meetings would be held on 8 September 1997, at 4:30 pm and 13 October 1997, at 4:30 pm. The following items would be discussed at the next meeting -

- Relocation of Family Court; and
- Implementation of the Legal Services Legislation (Miscellaneous Amendments) Ordinance 1997.

IV.Any other business

7. There being no other business, the meeting closed at 10:55 am.
